Okay, i'm from north cali, where car audio is taken extremely seriously. and i have been into the car audio scene since i was like 12...so i have some experiance with multiple brands, styeles and sounds.

I'll keep this simple, and list what i personally have found to be good product.

as far as sub-woofers go...i would go Cerwin Vega, Planet Audio, Image Dynamics, Eclipse, Hi-fonics, Kove Audio, Soundstream, PPI, DEI, Nakamichi..(beautiful sound quality)INfinity Kappa/Kappa Perfect, Audiobahn high end subs are good peices as well. Memphis audio, Polk, Hollywood, Boston Acoustics...subs on a budget...Lanzar, Pyle, JBL, pioneer, Fusion...infinity refernce

brands to stay away from...mobile authority, rockford fosgate, "thump", Sony, Kenwood, JVC, advent, volfenhag...ive had nothing but bad experiances with these brands...this is a short list cuz these are the most common "garbage" brands.

CD decks i like....Clarion, Alpine Eclipse, higher end Pioneer (premier) McIntosh(you WILL pay for it)Nakamichi (it looks bland, but its good stuff, it has a real clean classy look) and Most panasonic

brands to stay away from: blaupunkt, Sony, low end pioneer, Kenwood, low end panasonic, sanyo, Road gear(lol), eww eww eww and stay away from JVC at all costs...i tell you....3 out of 5 JVCs are returned everytime we sell them.(not my choice)

Amps....Ample, A/D/S, crossfire, Pheonix gold, Cerwin Vega, Zapco, Hi-fonics, JBL is okay, but i like to stick to brands that stick to what they are known for...their subs. Nakamichi, Planet Audio, Lanzar, some of the Power Acoustic Farenhiet series amps are good pieces.

im a little tired right now, i just got home, but if there are any questions, leave them, and i will respond, yuo can ask me just about anything, and i can probably help....i hope this was helpful to some of you.

Thumbs up

How about component sets? My choices of deck (Eclipse) and subs (Image Dynamics) have been on your list, which gives me hope.

Also, re: amps.. you didn't list Precision Power (PPI) either good or bad. Opinion on those? That was my amplifier choice. Still in the planning stages.

I have to disagree n some of you comments. I will have to disagree on Boston Acoustics for subs. I used to use Bostons throughout my car. I still use Bostons for mids and highs, but in my opinion the subs were junk. I have also has MTX subs which were junk as well. JL Audio with the exception of the W7 series is also a no go with me. I have had countless diffent systems in the SS and more brands than I can name. I now user Rockford for subs and guess what they actually hold up. I have to disagree with the head unit comments as well. I have had alpine and think it's junk. Head unit and eq in my car. Nothing but problems with both and i'm not the only one with problems with Alpine cd players. Now the amps are another thing, they are awesome. I have to say that. All of this that I talk about is from personal experience not what salesmen told me to sell my a piece of equipment. Well I think one of the best values amp wise is US Amps. I have one for bass and it's great. Sorry to have to disagree with you, but from what I've learned since I was 16 and put the first stereo in my Impala SS, I have went through many configurations and many different components. I'm now 21 and actually have the better quality things like Bostons and MTX(amps only) still around.

as far as component...

my opinion is Rainbow Audio, Image dynamics, ARC audio, Boston Acoustics, MB quart, Fusion has a nice set, kicker has some higher end that sounds really nice. Infinity Kappa/kappa perfects are wonderful, but you will pay for it. some polk sets are lovely.

And "sean" i have to disagree with you. i worked in a shop that once swore by the rockford fosgate name, then they switched designs, and began mass producing, and lost the quality of the woofer its self. then we had so many returns, we discontinued its use. so, i may have a bias opinion on the brand, but hey, i have seen bias reviews.

JL audio was never a favorite of mine. i thought it was over rated from the get go.

Soundstream SPL and Mule series subs are much better. Boston acoustics higher end subs are what i was referring to, but to each his own right?

as for some amps...precision power is a power house, i'ev SEEN pioneer subs, (2x12's) in a 94' nissan extra cab 4X4 with a 300 watt ppi amp, hit about 142 in a db drag. which is pretty nice considering the subs he was using. other amps...Alpine, GS designs, the rockford Power punch series, and ARC audio again....Arc is a fairly new brand from cali...but it seems to be what everybody is after. and to me, MTX is ass, the sound quality is greatly lost in their struggle to produce decibles. thats not what i want, personally. so i chose my brands and series' for sound quality, whats the point of spending $500 on something that makes your 12$ cd sound like it cost .35 cents. with absolutely no depth. anyways, any more questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks for your opinion/s

rockford is ass, i have never liked them and i don't know if i ever will. there image makes me not want to buy from the company. what about the brands like dd, and mmats? they are smaller companys and are supposed to be tops. sonic fx is another new company they are in cali, supposed to be great products. i've talked to the guy on the net for years now, and he's brilliant. what about orion? i've also heard really good things about them. alot of people in db drag use the jbl amps and swear by them, just look on termpro and see what they say. barely ever any problems, they sounds good and play loud. i got a link to the site for sonic fx if you want to check them out. www.sonicfxaudio.com i think he is working on designing amps to go with his subs.

Cool

I dont work for Arc audio, but i have seen nothing but good quality products from them. Also, I've been naming the most common top quality brands because it would seem they are easiest to obtain by people in other states.

As for the diamond audio Focal quesiton...Focal is a wonderful brand, that you can spend anywhere from $150-$10,000 on some component speakers. just go with what fits your budget. and for diamond Audio, i believe it is a branch of Planet audio. which as ive said, is good quality audio equip.

just stay away from trash brands, like Kenwood, and Sony. You couldnt give me a semi-load full of either brand. its trash, i pity the poor soul who falls into the hype, and actually flushes their hard earned american mana on it.

my 10cents, my 2 cents is free
