does anybody run subs on factory h/u?

lots of people do...
you can
1. get a loc (line out converter) and run the rcas directly to the subs or..
2. get an loc and a sound processor, like alpines h701c and run the subs from their...

personally, i like the look of thee cars with the factory cd player.. im considering putting one in my wagon and getting an loc... it just flows well

I'm not a fan of this years models, but 04 and 05 had some pretty good units.

To answer your questions.

You will get a better signal to your sub amp from a after market head unit.

Alpine is one of the best head units out there. I have run Alpine heads in my competition cars since 1990. Even in my 2002 USACi SQ world champion.
