I just got my fried HU back from the shop so I went and installed it. I have a new amp and subs that I hadn't connected before. To give some background, I have 2 speaks and two tweets running off the HU, two 6x9s runnin of an amp, and then two 12" L5s running off another amp.
As soon as I reconnected the battery, everything was playing fine. I fooled around with some settings until I got it sounding better. The bass still wasn't as crisp as I expected. I noticed that as I turned the volume up, the speakers got louder but the bass didn't seem to get much louder. So, I turned down the level on the speaker amp, but the speakers were still playing pretty loud. Then suddenly my subs stopped playing and my 6x9s got really quiet. I looked in the trunk and there was a red light that came on on the sub amp. I noticed the sub amp was really hot. I turned up the level on the speaker amp, and the 6x9s started playing just fine. It was almost like that amp was piggybacking power off of the sub amp before. After like 30 seconds, the sub amp turned back on and the subs started playing normally.
Why is it that the 6x9s got really quiet once the sub amp turned off? Also, I was only playing the system for like 5 minutes, so why did the sub amp overheat? I'd also like to know what I should be doing as far as tuning... what should I do for the HPF/LPF and all the various levels?
I'm also curious about how to wire my subs. I'm told that parallel is the way to go. I wired them in series fashion originally (before I found out less ohms was better
). How should I go about wiring my subs?
Sorry for the long post. Any help is greatly appreciated.
