I have the opportunity to choose from a Rockford Fosgate P4004 - 4 Channel or an MTX Thunder 895-5 5 channel amp. Both are in pretty good shape.

I have Clif Design 6.5(75rms) inch 2way co-ax in Fr, and JBL 6x9(90rms) 2 ways coax in the back, no subs yet but looking to put one down the road(maybe 1 12inch).

Which would be a better deal for quality durability, and would either be a problem running them at 2ohms.

I'm not looking to audiophilia down the road, just building a basic good and loud sounding system.

Your input would be appreciated.

Both amps are good quality the thing to look at is the five channel amp should allow you to have your complete system in one amp(save on money one amp) bad thing is if one of the channels go out then the whole amp needs to be sent in. If you have seperate amps then you could change the wiring around and at least have some music. You also need to look at how many watts there is. I'd go with the most watts per channel. Just my input.

I'm leaning to the MTX. I think its got more than enough to power my coax's(gotta be better than deck power thats for sure) , but the thing I really like is the fact that in building a simple system I don't have to buy and rewire for another amp, all I have to do is buy a boxed sub.

Both have the same power 50x4 at 4ohm and 100x4 at 2ohm. So the thing about buying which has more power is neutralized.

Both are available at the same price, just over $100. I think I'll go with the MTX for versatility.

Thanks for your input.

Yea, i like Rockford over MTX, but i would do the MTX because of it have the 5th channel for the sub. I have a JL audio 5 channel amp running my whole system. I did look at that same MTX amp for my system but found the JL on sale at the time. I think you will be fine. Remember to post some pic! Good Luck! -RRR

I bought the lightly used MTX 895.5 and it came yesterday. Looks new. All I'm waiting for now is delivery of the amp install kit.

Have also just found out that my old Pioneer DEH-P47DH deck has only has 1 preamp out, so will either need to buy a new deck with 3 preamp outs or an EQ with 6 channels as I hear going to more RCA Splitters isn't such a good idea for sound quality.

Won't be a while until I do an install. It's friggin -15c (or 5F approx) here in Ontario. I'll send pics when I do though.
