Hi Love my XM. My ? is on some channels it sounds Great(raw) it is clear like a cd. but on other channels(fred, ethel) it seems to have a staic backround noise. I did a speaker upgrade from stock at same time. I was woundering what level I should run the skyfi unit at ? The level control is located in the skyfi unit receaver it self.I have done some playing with it but it still is there. My anntena is inside on the back package tray by the 3rd break light. Any info or suggestions welcome. Ya my spelling sucks.

Are you running the Delphi FM modulator? If so, I've noticed (now that I have speakers/amp that are decent) that it doesn't sound worth a crap. I'll eventually figure out how to hard-wire it (AUX input) somehow....

Hi yes I did not notice till i did my speaker upgrade. Yes i have the Delphi FM modulator.Did you try setting what is called (line out levels) it is controled by the unit (delphi controller the portable receaverthe one you can move car to car or to house) It is ok on some stations. But the line out levels is what i think it is called. I will look and get back to you on what it is called.

I added a Pioneer FM modulated unit in my 91 ext. cab Chevy, and I've had really good luck with it. Now on the other hand it DOES still have the weak ass factory 4x6's in it, and that's all. It's possible I could experience the same problems you two have if I added some power and real speakers to it. Isn't the comedy channel great?

Yes, I didn't notice it much till I did the recent stereo upgrade.

I run the line out level one below max....works best for me. Max starts clipping on some loud stuff.

And yeah, I spend more than my fair share of time on Channel 150

Love The Comedy channel. AutocroSSer when you say clipping do you mean your amp starts to clip or the XM itself?

It's the XM (or more exactly, the FM modulator) that clips. I can play the stereo itself (FM or CD) WAAAAY louder with no clipping

SSGUSS, that portable unit is notorious(sp) for not sounding as good as the hard wired unit. I have the pioneer unit and have had no problems with the sound quality, a few too many dead zones, but the sound was/is always good.
