Unhappy

okay im having a wierd problem with my stereo. all my items are listed below pioneer 9300 deck/pioneer 952 2 channel 100x2 amp/infinity REF6953I 6x9 speakers. this problem has started ever since i got my infinity speakers which i like very much.
every time i turn my deck up pass 20 on the volume the rear speakers cut off and those are the only ones hooked upped to the amp this happens after a week of use (2nd pair of infinity's took the first ones back) so i take it to ciruit city and tell them what the problem is now they say its not the speakers but the amp(its going into protection mode) but the light stays on. so i figure in protection mode the light would cut off. im running out of ideas my amp has worked fine with the past speakers i used pioneer 6x9 4 ways and sony 6x9 3ways i blew the pioneers after like 6 months of use and the sonys i took back after a month(they still worked) to get the infinity's.
any help to figure out this problem is greatly appreciated.

Im no expert, but check your ground and power connections. Make sure your power wire is sufficient gauge, and get a very good ground connection of the same gauge as the power wire...

i think it could be the way u have your speakers hooked up to your amp, do u have your speakers hooked up in parallel or series? how many ohms or your speakers it should be either 2, 4, or a 8 ohm speaker, and how many ohms is your amp stable to? hooking your speakers up a certain way changes the ohm and your amp is not able to handle that ohm load at a very high volume thats why your amp gose into protection mode so it doesn't blow up. to help u out a bit parallel is positive+ plus positive+ and negative- and negative- series is + - and + - i'll go through my books and find out the excat number of ohms u get when when u hook up speakers a certian hope this help some

Definitly sounds like an amp problem. Who installed the amp? What gauge wire is running to it? Where is the + wire routed from? What are you grounding the amp to?
Have you tried a different amp (same model)?

It basically sounds like the amp is trying to do more than whatever is holding it back will let it do.

Finally you might try to run the speakers one at a time to see if you can isolate the problem to one channel. If you can, switch speakers to see if it is the amp on that channel or the speaker hooked to it.

I have a set of home speakers that would make the amp cut out only when the volume got up there. Turned out there was a short in the passive crossover on one speaker.

It could be the speakers as well.

its a 4 guage wire setup and i found out what the problem is. one of the speakers was shorting out the the other one.my stereo shop found this out by disconnecting one of the speakers and the other one played fine but when the he only ran the shorted one it keep cutting on and off. this is my third set of infinity's if these go bad im going to just go back to pioneer.

So my idea for troubleshooting possible speaker probs would have worked.

Glad you got it figured out.

OMG... I have never had a problem with my 3 sets of infinity speakers, I just love them!

(first set in my chase van, second set was reference series in the impala, newest set is kappa with kappa perfect in the front)

Atleast the amp was doing its job! lol, what kind of amp?
