First off, the factory deck and speakers seems ok to almost enjoyable for some music, but some songs sound really flat with it. So after 3 yrs of ownership, I have bought a Sony CDX-M750 to replace the factory unit. I am sticking with Sony because I have an older style 10-disc CD changer that can share magazines with the 10-disc home unit.
My first question is whether the factory speakers will sound better with the upgraded head unit or will they really limit the gain I hear? It is a matter of cost right now, so I will evetually upgrade the speakers, as I don't doubt that gains can be made here as well. The head unit puts out 19 watts RMS and 50 peak for reference. Is this too much power for the factory speakers?
Next question is relating to your experience with the dash adapters and how a single DIN units looks in the Impala after installation? Is there a particular adapter that works better than others? Is there a choice in mounting it toward the top or bottom rather than the standard in the middle adapter I usually see?
Lastly, I will mount the changer somewhere in the trunk, probably under the rear deck facing toward the trunk opening. I have 2 extra changers, so I was thinking of putting one on either side of the spare tire for those long road trips. What's the best way to route the RCA cables and Uni-link cord in the Impala on the way to the trunk? Will I have to remove the rear seats? Any experience you all can relate will be greatly appreciated.
