I have an 1988 dodge D-100 that I am fixing up, and I want to put a nice system in it. But I do not have a whole lot of money. I just purchased a Kenwood CD player(2019) and some Infinity Kappa 6.5 component speakers. I am limited for space as the truck is a standard cab. So what subs and amps would you suggest? Keeping in mind that whatever I use has to be able to fit in tight spaces. I could spend up to 150 for a sub(thinking I will only need one) and 200-300 for amps to power the whole system(front and rear speakers). I am also looking for feedback about the installation of the system. Should I try and make some kick panels for the Kappas? And what should I do with the sub.

Trying to fix this one up so I can stop driving the SS

Ok, for amps, to keep size down, get 2. One under each seat, 1 for your components, 1 for the sub. I'd look at kenwood for the amps. I recently learned about Image Dynamic subs, hella-good stuff. Get a truck style sub box and you'll be ready to go.
Now for the components, it's hard to say without seeing your interior. Doesn't the 88 have 1/2 plastic door panels with metal on the bottom? if so, cut some holes in the metal and put them right there.
---hope that helps some.

What source are you all purchasing from. I am fairly new to the car audio world and am not familiar with some of these brands. Where would I look for prices, specs etc.

thanks

my dad had a 85 gmc seirra and thats what i drove until i bought my caprice. i had 2 jl w0's behind the seat in a truck box i made myself. you mount both subs together in the middle so they go through the seat better. don't use anything bigger then 10" because there isn't enough room for the woofer to breath. it was pretty easy to do. mount your components low in the doors. i actually have the box and subs. i would like to see the subs, i'll give ya a good deal. they are in great condition.

looking for cheap sources? 1 word---EBAY. I got almost every piece of equipment I have from there.
Caveat emptor; make double sure you know what you're buying, then compare prices to make sure you're getting a deal.
If you shop wisely, you'll come out with money to spare.

camel,

What are you looking to get for the subs?

Maelstrom,

I looked at ebay yesterday and a majority of the stuff that I saw was junk. I guess you just gotta be patient eh?

Yeah, you have to know what you're looking for. I'm pretty close to buying a Sound Dynamics sub from there.
Figure out a few things you'd like to have and then do a search for them. Stuff's changing there constantly, so yeah, I guess you do ahve to be patient.

If you are just looking for a cheap system that is LOUD and sounds decent you could do what a freind of mine did...

Hes got a 92 silverado standard cab. He is 6'2" and weighs in close to 300lbs. The moral of this story is that there is not hardly any room at all for a system but.... Hes mangaged to fit a nice kenwood cd player (excelon I think), factory highs (with crossovers on em), 4 jensen 10s (the more expensive ones not the cheapest ones you can buy), And a kenwood amp that puches about 1000 watts.

I hate even being able to compare any jensons to my system because on the most part jesons are crap. And I am not extremely fond of anything made by kenwood either. But his **** knocks! It's almost as loud as my 15's and his hits alot faster than mine and get pretty low also. It also sounds better. I wouldn't have believed they were jensons if he didn't slide the seat up and let me see them.

just a suggestion.

And when looking for a good powerful amp I would segest looking for the new jbl 1200.1 it is a work horse for its price if found on ebay.
