Car and Driver tested a 1994 Impala SS in 1994 and recorded a top speed of ~142mph. LASD and MSP testing also recorded ~142mph for a 1994 9C1 w/LT1.

These were bone stock vehicles.

I can honestly believe believe you, because I have done the samething.

I also race a Bentley for 0.7 miles, and I lost . The good news about that though is from the line I actually left him,
but when we got to 0.4 mi, he flew past me and left me by at least 10 cars.
At the next light he gave me my props for shooting off on him.

I actually looked it up on mapquest to find the distance we raced.

 

Ran almost a mile with the speedo showing 149 (pissed I could not get it to 150) pre-dawn one Sunday to work. It took a while to get there and I thought "ok check off that box" so I backed down. If I had hit a deer I figured the car would just vaporize. Bone stock not even a year old, felt sorta ok especially considering the stock suspension.

I recall the speedo variance thing was earnestly debated in an identical thread bout 10-15 year ago. So no need to go to DEFCON 5 about the different numbers boys. This ain't MISC. <--
