Starter is intermittent when turning the key to start. A few weeks ago I noticed that when I rotate the key to the start position there was a momentary delay in the starter turning. No clicking or anything just dead and a delay. The delay was just a microsecond. Last week the starter wouldn't turn. A few tries later, it started right up like nothing happened. Seemed like everything else was operating ok, radio/lights, etc. I cleaned the battery posts today and inspected the junction connection by the firewall. I didn't check the starter connection yet. I replaced this starter a couple of years ago when the starter went out last time. I don't recall the circumstances the first time it went out. I had it towed to a shop and they replaced it with direct replacement starter, probably NAPA or one of the other local parts delivery shops. Seems to be starting fine today, even after warming up and several restarts. I'd hate to pull it out and have it tested only to be told there is nothing wrong with it (at the time). Will a bench test reveal a problem? Maybe a more thorough electrical test...resistance etc? Anyway, any suggestions appreciated. If it is the starter I think I'll put in the Vet starter. Now what was that part number or year of Vet starter? Hmmm...
