Hey all,

Does any body have a diagram on how to do a proper throttle body coolant bypass. I thought i did it properly by routing the coolant return line to the overflow from the connection on the driver side of the TB to the supply line on the passenger side. Then just capped off the two TB coolant connections. If thats not right please correct me

Thanks,

The reason I asked was because I saw a bypass kit on ebay that consisted of a piece of hose and a union fitting. Not understanding the purpose for either I assumed I did it incorrectly.
The kit they sell is basically for people who are uniformed about the modification

the metal hose that comes from the rear of the engine on passenger side needs to go directly to the coolant tank, bypassing the TB.
what he said only that here is a picture of it

1. Disconnect PINK hose and drain out extra fluid then connect back to coolant reservoir.
2.completely remove BLUE L shape hose
3.Remove pink hose from throttle body and
4.connect PINK HOSE to GREEN Metal Tube.

Thats it!!!!
I just saved you what $10.00 to $20.00 bucks.

No...it won't harm the engine.

Basically, the coolent lines runs warm (hot :( ) coolent through the TB to keep the metal warm (hot

) so that in cooler climates you don't have moisture/condensation icing up the mechanism. A good idea on paper but not really necessary.

Bypassing the TB brings down the temps of the TB. This, in turn, prevents the unnecessary heating of the air that the engine inhales. Of course, the cooler the air into the engine, the more power the engine produces....and that's why we do the bypass.

It's free and it may be good for up to 5 hp....

Thanks for the instructions/diagrams guys. It was a breeze to do. The only question is do we have to cap off the exposed throttle body tubes? Also about 2Liters of coolant came out of the TB. Do I have to put it back into the resiveor before I run the car?

there is a bleed screw on top of the water pump outlet hose... crank er up and crack that screw open... or you can get a freese bleed adapter so ya dont make a mess... just search for it. the entire proceedure is in the tech tips section. and maintenance section also. i thinkit is in the ss handbook too... just search for it. its a pdf download. real handy.

I need to make a new picture for the page.

Caps are rubber. 3/8 Vacuum caps are a perfect fit. Any auto store should have them. Pack of three run $1.99-$2.99. That Kragen on Midway, across from Sizzler in the area of the Post Office had some at the bottom of the rotating display up near the front of the store in the aisle with all of the random replacement fixtures. Caps aren't necessarry but it looks better with them, especially the driver's side.

Let me know if you want any help with this and I can swing by. Maybe it will also be time to reroute the wire harness so you can run vette covers too.

Here's what the 90 degree elbo originally connecting the metal supply line to the TB will look like after you are done with the mod...

I just did my TB bypass today. I had a lot of problem getting the elbow hose off with the spring clamps on them. I had to eventually cut them off and unscrew the long metal pipe attached to the engine block to have room to take off the elbow hose from it. I still have to take off the piece of elbow hose I left on the block. I ran out of time for that today. Does anyone know how I can turn off my low coolant light? It popped on after I finshed with everything today. I refilled the coolant resevoir with water for now until I can go to the auto part store.
