When I'm doing big maintenance on LT1s, I always take the six bolts off the water pump cover and make sure the impeller is tight on the shaft and in good condition. I've had three water pumps now, both new and used, that have leaked from that cover afterwards.
There's a very thin o-ring in there that's supposed to seal it. Should I augment with something like Right Stuff or Hondabond? There's plenty of machined flat surface for this sealant to work with.
