5x114.3(dodge) and 5x115(chevy) interchangeable?

I know this isn't related to my cappy wagon so maybe this belongs in the Misc section. We just bought a 2000 Bonneville for my wife and I am looking for some nice wheels for it for the summer (I want to keep the stocker 16" for some good snows). A lot of vendors are saying they are interchangeable but wouldn't that stress the studs or affect torquing of the wheels? My wife and babies will be rolling in this so if there is even a minute chance of failure, I won't risk it. If it is O.K. I was thinking of some chrome 300M wheels or something. Opinions? Wheel GURU Firewood... Anyone? TIA, Jeremy

.7mm difference doesn't seem like a lot, but it may be enough to make the lug nuts not seat properly when torqued down. I would say look at GM's wheel selection. Many 1990 and newer GM FWD vehicles use the 5x115 bolt pattern(RWD vehicles are either 5x4.75 or 5x5 or a 6 lug pattern for trucks) so there are plenty of styles to pick from. This post off the charger forums also recommends against it as somebody apparantly went from 5x114.3 to 5x115 and things broke http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8713. However somebody on there does mention that using hubcentric rings will make things work - Peter

I have used 22" 5x115 wheels custom made for a Chrysler 300 on my 5x114.3 Crown Victoria. The wheels were hubcentric and were the same size as the hub on my Crown Victoria. So, I got lucky. I also made sure the wheel's holes were centered on the studs when I installed the lugnuts. The ride was very smooth without any vibrations. I didn't have them on long enough to confirm durability or wear on the studs though.

Personally, since you have a FWD 5x115 GM car, I would choose from the fast selection of 5x115 FWD GM wheels. It should be easy to find a nice looking, inexpensive set of wheels and tires for your Bonneville. That way, the hub will match the wheel and the bolt pattern will be exact.

The official answer from the wheel industry is don't do it. 5x115 does NOT equal 5x114.3! (can't you read?) It does indeed put stress on the , as you are forcing them to bend slightly, and the.y were never designed to do that.

In real life, I have done it to mixed results. Without hubrings, the wheels will never center properly, and even with they sometimes don't. Every car responds differently. If I stuck the same 5x114,3 wheel on 3 FWD Cadillacs, One would ride just fine and have no problems, one would mount up fine but have a shake you can't get rid of, And the last would break studs. results are unpredictable when you ask a fastener to do something it wasn't meant to do.

How's that for a long winded answer? Well I'm not done...

Why not just find 5x115 wheels? They're out there.

Thanks all! That pretty much answers it for me. I have found many sellers on Kijiji and sites like it that list the wheels as 5x115 and put 114.3 in brackets for the same wheel w/ only 5 holes and claim it fits both w/ no problems. I now know better! It begs the question though, WHY would the BIG 3 make a 5 hole rim SO close to the other?! .7 of a mm?! You think they woulda just made them the same size for simplicity! Can't we all just get along:)
