Now I know the civil caprice has the 7.5 driveshaft and crappy rear end but as far as just dumping the l99 and dropping the same year lt1 and Tranny in, it would be pretty much plug and play? I figure I'd need to tune the pcm if I kept the original for the motor and transfer and the new Pcm for the gears and etc.? Correct?

Yes should be a direct swap, and you are correct in thinking about the PCM if you put in the PCM from the engine trans that you are putting in, retune for gear ratio and you should be good.

Mike to the rescue. Thanks to both of you guys. My 96 was lonely so I'm getting her some company lol I just need to sell the l99. How much does one go for. This one has about 142k on it.
I did the swap almost 3 years ago and the only issue was the fuel injectors are different, I just got some out of an LT-1 caprice at the junkyard, and yes you will need the PCM retuned
