I installed an Alpine head unit today (CDA-D855, 1.5 DIN)
Let me say that the unit exceeded my expectations, and after reading the specs in the back of the manual, I figured out why.
Alpine is funny in that they don't really advertise the specifications of their products. I usually rely on say Cruthfields catalog to look things up but they don't sell Alpine and Alpine's website is horrid.
This puppy has a CD signal to noise ratio of 105 db, no wonder it sounds great. Considering that I was running the stock head unit thru converters and then RCAs to the amp, the difference is amazing.
I'm rethinking the urgency of putting the bigger speakers up front for now, but as you guys know it takes about 1.2 days from going to the point you can't believe how much better it sounds to the point where you ask what can I do next to improve it.
If anyone is looking for a great stock 1.5 DIN head unit look no farther. Sounds good and looks good.
Also neat thing is that if you play CDs the power antenna won't go up... just like some people install rocker switches to control.
