Can't find 235/70R15 white walls! Do 235/75s fit?

I've called around and 235/70R15s are not available in a white wall. Coketire has them but I don't want to pay the price. I'm thinking of going with Mastercraft A/S IV 235/75R15 Whitewall 06315. They're made by Cooper as a cheaper tire line. These tires are 28-5/8" tall where as other 235/75s are 28-7/8" tall. Has anyone had any rubbing problems with these tires or this size tire in other brands? Does anyone have a picture of there Roadmaster sedan with 235/75R15 white walls?

Yes, beautifully, unless your suspension is REALLY sagging.

You want the hankook optimo, h-724. Bear in mind, this tire has a narrower contact patch than your standard 70 series. By roughly an inch. They provide decent traction, will balance-out well, and are whisper quiet.

Unfortunately, I can't upload photos right now, but they have the traditional "cadillac" bulge, and a 1" whitewall.

I tried all kinds of tires in the search for a smooth-riding replacement. Vogues, BfGoodrich silvertowns, even blackwall Coopers. These cheap-ass Hankooks are as good as they get!

Yeah, whitewalls rock :)

225/75 should be same diameter as 235/70. 235/75 is bigger and will throw off your speedometer.

I put new Hankook Optimo H724 225/75-15 whitewalls on my Fleetwood in April. No complaints yet--quiet and comfortable, as you'd expect from a new tire. They were the only option I could find. They were in stock at Sears.

As you can see, the whitewall is just slightly narrower than what we grew up with.

That's incorrect. On metric tires the first number is the tread width in MM. Second number is sidewall height as a percentage of tread width. A 235 75 15 will be taller than a 235 70 15, but it certainly won't be narrower. It will have the same 235mm wide tread.

To the OP, I have used 235 75 15s on Roadmasters and Caprices for ten years. You'll be fine.

Pacer, I don't know where you're located, but Discount tire is a vendor for the hankooks. I had a set of coopers previously, and these are a step up in ride quality. Transition feel is nice, and they track very true, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

If you drive aggressively, there may be better choices, but these are XL load-rated, and the sidewall stiffness is ample for a touring tire.

Good luck!

I'm not a expert on tires but here is what I found when I looked at specifications on line

235/75R15 tread width. Hankook Optimo 5.8", Mastercraft A/S IV 5.9"

235/70R15 tread width. Tires list on Tirerack 7.2", 7.5", 6.5"

It's unfortunate that mfgrs don't print the tread-width on the sidewall, since that is the metric most of us are concerned with. Depending on the degree of sidewall bulge, there can be drastic differences between the two; there's no hard rule, you almost have to consult the spec for that particular tire. Tread width and cross-section are two independent measurements that can provide an indication of the tire's overall shape. I just thought it may be of some concern to the OP, since there's less "rubber meeting the road." I haven't noticed any difference in traction between the 70 and 75 A/R, FWIW.

You're all arguing about the difference between the tire's treadwidth RATING, vs the actual contact patch on the ground, which are two different things.

Then there's the fact that even two tires of the same size rating may not have the exact same tire specs, objectively measured.

Anyway, 235/75R15 tires were either included options, or standard for the Cadillac Fleetwood's V4P 7K Tow Pack, V4U CoachBuilder, B9Q Hearse, and B05 Armour SEO packages, so unless you lowered your Caprice or Roadmaster pretty low, 235/75R15 fits fine.

Mine came stock with 235/70/VR15. I've yet to find anything but Vogues in that size and speed rating.

I've had great luck with Diamondback Classics tires. They'll do 235/70/15 white wall tires for you.My 235/70/15 blackwall radials are from them.I ordered them with smooth no letter side wall for a cleaner look.
One can order white side wall in different width's as well.
