Identifying an LT1 VS. L99

I found a civi caprice in the bone yard, I want to pull the computer and wiring harness. I crawled under the car and it has two cats just like my 9C1, but after the cats it goes into a Y pipe. Is it an LT1? I thought L99's went Y pipe from the manifolds to one cat. This car and my car are both 94's.

Look at the FRONT of the block you will find 327 there.
Above the oil pan rails on the sides the L99 says 588 and the LT1 327 I agree there. I am just saying if you look over the whole block you will find 327 in some places on the L99 as well. The block is gone now but looking at my spun bearing LT1 block it has 327 on the drivers side front face and 588 on the passenger side front face on either side of the timing cover.
This is why I like to tell people to look behind the driver's side head. If they look in the wrong place and see a 588 or 327 they could make a mistake in identification. The 5700/4300 thing is foolproof.

I thought the L99 has 588 on the block.

BLOCKS
350 - There are two blocks, one with two-bolt mains and one with four-bolt mains. They both have the same 10125327 casting number, so there’s no sure way to know which one you have until you get the pan off. However, if it came out of a Corvette, it should be a four-bolt block, and if it came out of anything else, it was supposed to be a two-bolt. GM used the two-bolt block for everything but the Corvette because it had plenty of strength and it weighed a little bit less.

265 - There was only one block used for the 265 cid version of the LT1. It’s a 10168588 casting that had the numbers "4.3" cast on the side, too. It’s real easy to spot if the heads are off because of the small 3.74" bore.
</font>[/QUOTE]ok i just went out to the shed, checked my l99 block yes you are right no 327 on that bad boy.

however on each side of the oil pan, stamped on the block 588 as clear as day.

96capriceMGR you might want to check that out... if it has 327 then you might have a lt1.

The 9C1 is only 205 H.P. Where is the horse power difference from the Impala SS?
You may be confused, by sound of above question?

The 260hp LT1 engine(P in VIN) installed in B-Bodies~"94 thru '96[Caprice Civi & 9C1/ImpalaSS/Roadmaster]** is a "Gen II".
Here are the many differences from the Gen I L05 350ci engine, that boost hp/efficiency> www.automotiverebuilder.com/ar/ar99928.htm
Also was equipped with Sequential Multi-Port Fuel Injection!{L05 was TBI}

L05 engine's last year in B-Bodies was 1993

**Vehicles w/V08 HD Cooling/Towing Pkg{w/Mechanical Fan} may have slightly less hp rating IIRC.

The L99 does have 327 in a couple places on the block as well. IMO the simplest most foolproof way to go is look behind the drivers side head, it will say 4300 or 5700, guess which each means.

In the car this is a PITA but use a mirror or something.

As said though wiring and computer will work even if it is an L99.

EDIT; As far as I can remember it started 1G1BL5, I remember that because I was thinking B4U. Does that help any?

not really, its the 8th number in the vin.
if P its lt1 if w its 4.3.

but if it has only one ehaust pipe then its most likely a 4.3 car, unless someone started molding and put a lt1 in there and kept the single exhaust

BTW thanks i would really appriate it,i should be able to find one but its just iam not the greatest cutter
Image
i rather would pay for a rust free one even if its cut up way past the body line and needs alot of finishing.then i can get it to my bodyguy and he can make it perfect.

but look at the vin!!!if W then its a l99 car,but regardless the computer and wiring harness will work just the same as a lt1 car, just got to program the computer.

also look at the block if theres no 327....then its no lt1.

EDIT:also if i remember correctly your the one who replaced the lower quater panel correct???i will pay you a fair share if you find a rust free piece like yours from the body line down and ship it to me...name a price :D
W in the VIN, O.K. I'll check that out. I already looked the quarters over on this car, dented to hell. But I know how hard they are to find so I'll keep an eye out.
