But i love you guys so i wanted to introduce you squares to the madness i call my daily life.. which is a graffiti artist.

and Shiro

the tip to painting a car "flat black" is to choose this paint..
Image

1. prep the surface.. prime, sand with like 6-800 grit sandpaper..
2. take out the can and shake for exactly 60 seconds.
3. turn the can over with the nozzle upside down and let out 120 seconds of air.. (this is so you have some control over the amount of spray coming out)
4. buy a can of "elmers glue spray adhesive" and take off the cap that looks like this.. you can take off the orange top and see if this cap is on there.. make sure it has an orange face.. we call these caps "rusto fatcaps" they spray extra wide, with a misted spray.. rather than the traditional cap that is on the cans.. which spray in a hairy "dot"

(who woulda thought of that?-kurt)

5. Spray.. make LARGE left to right strokes that feather off on the ends..
the last thing you want to do is at the end of the stroke to make a long stop.. paint will gob up and drip.. feather off like you are dusting.

Make sure that you are not TOO close to the panel when painting.. about 5 to 6 inches distance is appropriate.

when you make strokes make sure each line is overlapped by a half of a stroke.. at first you will see SLIGHT drying streaks.. but the one
thing that is different about Rustoleum is that it dries SLOWER than other paints.. so it will even out VERY nicely.. but keep it in a place that
wont get too much debris.. not very necessary but it helps a bit..

(Hint).. you can do a light tack spray and then go over it heavier but it isnt very necessary.

I go the expanse of the car rather than panel by panel.. but you can do either.. ive done both with similar results.

should look like this.. and i painted it in my parking spot out in the open..

to get good at it i suggest practicing on an spare panel or just pull your balls out of your pelvis and go for it..

and thats it.. Mr. Totem's flat black instructional post!

for any questions hit me with an IM.
How about that? I think it may be time to black the wagon... My wife will hate it, but I will love it.

I did this to my 68 skylark 2yrs ago. same satin black rustoleum. except i shot it out of a cheapo gun. held up real nice and went on smooth. it is pretty durable to the elements. the only thing ssucked was it would show little markes in the paint from washing or wiping. not really scratches but marks that overtime kinda took over. not bad over all though. i'll see if i have pics. ive since sanded it down and scuffed it up for future work. i also did the roller paint job on my ladys 85 imp a year or so ago. in white. looks VERY GOOD for what it is. and durable too. used rustoleum thinned with 100% mineral spirits and rolled on with a 4" high density foam roller. went on smooth and glossy. still as shiny as the day i did it and i havent wet sanded and polished yet. not bad to turn a beater into somethin a bit more pleasant on the eyes.

I think what works for the rustoleum is its NOT primer. And changing the valve helps it lay much more evenly.
If I can figure out how to darken my woodgrain, I will do it. My wife is gonna hate it.
Eventually I'll do black vinyl woodgrain, but if I can the existing wood a bit, IT'S ON!

Anyway, Carry on.

Really hope this retard plans on redoing this car the right way and not some ****ing backyard hackjob like this for long. if its a real GTO. if its a cloned le mans with a gto front clip then have at it.

My attempts at this I noticed the nozzle didnt work right.

He said buy a can of elmers glue. HA HA hes funny. We all know how to get one nozzle.cwm4

Ive done 2 cars with cans, its fun, but belive me. Youll be mad at yourself an hour or so into it.

Hands will feel dead. left lines in the paint.

WIsh I knew about that nozzle though.
