Super easy mod, Just did mine, along with a drum to disc swap. My car actually stops now:D

Do I need any modification when adding rear discs to a 92 rms?

typically the porportioning valve on a disc/drum system is 97/3. On a disc/disc it is more like 70/30

This is why a portioning valve swap is needed for a disc/disc so the rear brakes actually do something

The "stealth" mod is what people have done to remedy this.

IIRC the SS came with a disc/drum valve.

Navy Lifer could give more detail

As for the upgrade of the Prop valve, I can't believe the difference. I did this and the Jeep steering shaft swap. Car stops on a dime and steers like a Lambo. (yes, i've driven one)

I deleted my ABS as well, so I'm not sure if that makea big difference or not. But I love it.

if you have an extra stock metering bolt you can make this easy, just cut it down to the same length as the propo bolt. or just plug the stock propo vent hole w a pipe plug, leave the guts out and grind a little on the metering bolt. Cost- pipe plug or extra metering bolt, hacksaw, grinder, a pipe tap.

Think I read somewhere that the proportioning valves are the same on all of our cars. Whether its a Disk or a Drum....Impala or Caprice, all the same.

FWIW - I swapped my Drum Brake rear over to a Disk Rear and left the original PV. I picked up the Bolts to do this PV mod and have yet to do it. Getting to it this winter but may just go with a new MC with a builtin adjustable PV instead.

ALL you need to know about the latest mod, covers the stealth bolt, metering bolt, proportioning valve, and cost is almost 0.

The only complaint I've gotten about my HIPS mod is it does not have stealth capability.(update- a wise and crafty HIPS user found a workaround "just glue the stupid rubber cap on w crazy glue if it's that f'n important u anal b*****s")

HIPS is lighter than stealth so your car will go faster.

While HIPS is a real easy modification, the brake bleeding technique mentioned is confusing and meant to be only used on well maintained race cars.

Just got mine!

Before doing this mod to my 94 SS, I couldn't get enough fluid to the rear calipers to even bleed the brakes. I thought the brake lines were stopped up. The back brakes were not even working. I did nothing but change the two stealth bolts. Needless to say, it made a huge difference in my car.

Yes,but if your brakes are deficient in other areas it will not be noticeable. Inoperative rear sliders being the most common. Brake hoses, old fluid, and poor pad choices being a few other factors.

I tried to do the mod today with the Pro forge kit and I couldn't get the front one to seal. I tried it several times and even changed the o-ring but it was not sealing, had to put the stock back in for now. If I install the rear one and it doesn't leak, can I cut the old one to use in the front?

Or,modify your front one by drill/tap small hole in the end. Then seal with suitable fastener (button-head allen) with some threadlock/JB-weld on threads.
