Anbody using 215/75-15's in stead of 225/70's? On a tight budget and need 4 new sneakers for my 9c1 and wonder if there is any major difference in handling, how do they look? almost the same height wise, slightly narrower, and found some for about $35/each.

Alot of it would depend on the tread/compound as well as size. My L99 came with 215/75s and they sucked. But they were also cheap factory tires. I put on BFG 225/70s and that was a dramatic improvement. But how much of that was the size and how much was the rubber? Don't know. The 215s looked a little too skinny IMO but not stupid looking.

Never have never will get white letter tires, sorry, not my type of look. Sear's pep boys, and a few other places have the 215/75 for around the same price, mind you they are not name brand but I personally don't care. I'm going to BJ's wholsale club tomorrow, I'l look there too.

I would be very cautious when it comes to cheap tires for our heavy cars. There is nothing wrong with a 75 tire on a 9C1 if it's a quality tire. I've been running 235/75R15 Goodyear Viva 2 tires for over a year now on a couple of my 9C1 beaters with excellent results. I think the Viva 2 is a better handler than RSAs that came on the 9C1, I know for a fact Viva 2s are better in the rain. Viva 2s are not speed rated like the RSAs but I've run the Viva 2s at 120mph for over 20 minuets with no problems. (Gotta love Alligator Ally.) Best thing about the Goodyear Viva 2 is that you can buy them at any Super Center Wal-Mart for $55.95 each, and you can get it a black wall.

My Yokohama Avid S/T tires are American made. I know what you mean, though. I purposely had them mounted blackwall side out just because the name of a Japanese city wouldn't look right on a car "Made in Texas By Texans". Great bargain, though.

Rule#1, Dont Skimp on Tires for your Car! This doesn't mean you have to buy the Most expensive tire out there, Just buy something fairly decent in Quality. With the weight of the B-Body, I'm with Wayne here on Price VS Selection. Kumho's would be no problem for My Caprice! We put a set of Kumho's on my Sons 94 Chevy C-1500 EXT Cab truck and have had no problems out of them. Got a set of Yokohoma's on my 94 Geo metro Work ride because Yokohoma made the Fattest/Tallest tire available for the "Little Go-Cart". I Have a Set of BFG KDWS 255/50/17's on my Caprice now and they didn't last for Sh$t! Regular rotating/Checking tire pressure Didn't help either! Another set WONT Be going back on Soon!
I Buy nearly all the tires we get from the Tire Rack also. No-One around here can touch their prices

I agree with B Body Builder "Don't Skimp On Tires"

Buy the most tire you can afford... OPEN the driver's door & LOOK at the tire data...

Discount Tire will usually do anything cheaper than anywhere else. They even buy tires from Tire Rack for you [at discount] if that is the only place the tire is available. They also have the Hunter "Road Force" balancing machine.

I think it is wise to have tires that meet or exceed OEM original tire specs for the car as to load & speed rating [LOOK at the DOOR sticker]. A side benefit is that this logic will qualify your car to any type racing [that you might expect to do...].

I went with Goodyear Eagle F-1 GS D3 but they are pricey & the wear is only AA [maybe 25~30K]...

Right On--George

Well I just couldn't help myself. I bought the package deal from GM. I got 4 Impala SS wheels with caps, lug nuts & stems. Then I bought 4 BF Goodrich 255-50 ZR 17's at Sams for $130.00 each. $1200.00 total. Ouch. I had just bought 4 Generals for the 15's. So I have them stored away.
But they look good. Handle good too.
Bob.
