WIPER ISSUES

Hello my friends...

So, I went through about 24 pages last night and I found some of my answers but still have a few...

Long story short, my wipers stopped working last night, on the way home, while it was raining...I cycled through all the speeds and nothing... and I tried activating the windshield washer fluid spray, and nothing....THEN they started working again about 10 minutes later (whew) .... here's the facts:

1) A coupe years, I replaced all my steering column stuff (wiper stalk combo and all innards electrically speaking) and all with OEM GM stuff...and everything worked great from the get go...
2) About a month ago, I noticed my wipers would stop halfway through the wipe action, intermittingly stopping half way on the "up" wipe and cycle normal on the rest ... it would do about 5 or 6 wipe cycles but stopping half way through like stated (I hope I made sense)
3) No blown fuses (25 amp)
4) All wiping speeds work flawlessly when no issues (#2)
5) Ground on fire wall looks intact

This morning its working perfect again....I disconnected and reconnected the plugs INTO the "black box" on the wiper motor to make sure wire plugs weren't burnt and they looked like new, no corrosion. I did buy a motor last night @ O'Reilly's just incase .... any "idiot proof" way to check if its the "blackbox"...? I ready about attaching an extra ground...?

Images, maybe you gods see something I don't....
I already reached out to a really nice guy who knows someone that can fix the "black box"

I humbly thank you ahead of time...

The black box is notorious for acting up. You can put another black box on it, or attempt to resolder all of the joints on the circuit board. The circuit board is difficult to remove from the black box, but can be done with some effort. Position the sector disk correctly before reassembly.

My wipers freaked out a few years ago--turned out to be a frayed wire near the bottom of the steering column where the wiper and TS harnesses slide. When the wipers/washer stopped working a couple of weeks ago, I took off the panels and the plastic slider cover over the harness, and re-positioned the harnesses inside the white plastic slider to reduce friction. Didn't trace the failing wire this time, just re-arranged the harnesses a little, and now everything works fine.

Hey guys....

Quick update..... So, the wiper motor was swapped, "black box" seems fine and now, my wipers work ONLY on the fast setting and pause slightly when the wipers come down in the rest position before coming back up ... soooo damn frustrated and confused....and of course, its starting to rain!! Jeez

Is there another vehicle's unit that works with our vehicles, plug & play...?

All of the GM cars of the same period with variable wipers had the same black box. If it looks the same, it will work. I have removed them from the smaller Cadillacs, Pontiacs, and Oldsmobiles. They all worked.

Thanks Jim....

I just noticed that my rebuild wiper motors' contacts are straight blade ... and the OEM I took off.... the contacts are like yours...curved

I wonder if this could be causing my issue... (I'm going to up load a video)

I keep a number of used ones on hand. I look for wipers that are correctly stored by the motor to find ones that work properly.
