+the $12 core!

Jeazus, I paid $68 last April for the Impala battery + core. (didnt have an old battery)

battery prices need to quit going up.

And people, when you sell a car, leave the damn battery in it.

Depends on what brand of battery you buy, I buy NOTHING but interstate batteries and so far i've gotten nothing less than 10 years out of them and other than my blazer I couldn't say how long they've lasted as i've sold other vehicles that still was going strong with the Interstate but my blazer I still own and it's going on 11 years now.

Yeup, why would someone buy a car without a battery.

FWIW... 112.00 is better than what I've paid. I run Optima batteries and basically all of my rides. My most recent purchase was a red top for my truck. Freakin' thing cost me about $240.00 or so.

Bummer,

when i got my car it had 69K and original bat.
I replaced it when it died at 6 years like it was said to last.
I bought the same one and "knock on wood" it is still working, but it don't own me a thing, as it should have died in 2008... YMMV

I paid $125 plus core a ten dollar core charge, plus 8% tax ($140 total) for a 770 CCA battery from Napa last month. Damn racetronix for making such a flimsy ground terminal adapter.

Just had to replace mine a month ago. It was $90 something at AZ for the red top Duralast 875 cca. I got 6 years out of the Optima Red Top 5-year batt that preceded it but it cost $169 IIRC.

I changed it in the parking lot at the AZ to avoid the core charge. There was a young woman who was waiting on me. When I brought the old battery back into the store, she said "You are one of the last 'real men'. Most guys that come in here these days don't have a clue how to change a battery, let alone have the right wrench, and I end up having to do it for them" :)

I sell battery for $80-$130. Of course we have a 72 month warranty and a no hassle policy. Not a bad price for 2 year free replacement and the rest gets prorated. I hardly ever have batterys come back with problems

I used to get the awesome Costco Kirkland car battery for around $79.99 Great battery. Costco in some areas stocks interstate, which are the worst batteries however they are the same price. Interstate is made by Johnson controls, so is Kirkland. However, Interstate just puts out crap. The CCA rating is always lower and they don't last for anything. Go figure.

I heard battery prices were on the rise as their was a shortage of recycled batteries lead due to warmer winters up north. Heat is the killer of a battery, just its effects show up when its cold. Here a battery can fail in 1-2 years due to the superheated temperatures

Yes, batteries have gone up in price pretty quick. They are approx. $100.00+ at most stores now. However, I rarely buy the "Retail" batteries. Most of the companies that deal only in batteries (not your retail or auto parts store) sell what are called factory blems. They have small imperfections in the cases that in some cases are so minor you cant see them. The discount on these blems is substantial, they work as good as one that is not a blem, and have the same warranty. However, you have to ask about them, and you wont find them in a retail store. I bought two at Interstate for my big diesel truck and they cost about what one retail battery would have cost. Remember that next time you need a battery and save some money!

Bought a Bosch battery at Pep-Boys for my 99 Suburban about a month ago. $103. Dual post & has a 120 minute reserve. Found out same model fits my wagon so when it craps out, I'll grab one from there.;)

You can thank the EPA due to much tighter restrictions on lead production and distribution, safety standards, increased cost of shipping a heavy item, HAZMAT, etc.

Costco 36/100 warranty and proven value is still a strong draw.

Recyclers here pay $10 each for car, $5 for bike/mower type. Big truck, big RV even more.

A lot of people are unaware of this, but Autozone sometimes has used batteries for sale. They get returns where the battery may still be like new and nothing wrong with it, but they can't sell it as new, so they sell it at a flat rate used price. Was 24.99 + tax/core last time I bought one. If it's a common size battery, they just might have one. Worth checking if you don't have a lot of money to spend. Comes with a one year warranty too.

Buddy of mine has used the Interstate remans the last few times and they last him 5-6 years and cost him 40-50 bucks. Thats what I'm going to try on my next battery.
