So I have done quite a bit of research on this. I am looking to run the Torqhead system. I watched all of Rubber City Motoring’s videos on the subject, and it looks like its so easy a Caveman could do it, and it seems to work flawlessly.

i have a 2000 4l80e from behind a gen vi bbc that came out of a gmc 3500 flatbed that I want to throw in the Impala.

the 4l80e conversion harnesses i canfind are listed as being for 98 and up F-bodies, but also 1996 and up trucks.

i know for the B-body the 1996 got all pf the latest improvements, and its a 13 pin connector. From everything I have researched, it should be exactly the same as the 1996 vortec 4l60e from the trucks with the possible exception of the tailshaft design, but same vss, same 13 pin connector etc.

Does this mean that I can use the same conversion harness as a 1996-2000 gm truck would? I know I’ll have to make some programming changes (or request them in the tune from torqhead).

also, I know there is a sticky thread on rewiring the 4l80e to run off of the lt1 computer, butI’m looking for as close to a plug and play solution as possible.

One does not merely “throw in” a 4L80E into one of these cars. I had a similar deal available to me
and I ended up just putting a bunch of upgrades into my 4L60E for about the same cost.

You said your Impala is a '95 - it's pretty easy to tune the '94-95s. Is there a reason you NEED the torqhead conversion, like forced induction, nitrous, or spinning the engine higher than 7100 rpm? Otherwise you can buy and fix a lot of optisparks, or buy a Delteq or LTCC for less money.

Possibly a good read for you

Question though , if the end goal is a late fat block , why not do it all at once ?

Here is a link to a previous build I did with a Vortech L29 7.4 4l80E into an 84 Monte Carlo.

it retained all of the factory multiport efi stuff, and is now running off of an 0411 pcm

Hey man, thanks for the reply, and at the risk of sounding “pissy,” did you read my post at all???

i am well aware that it can be repinned, both for the gen3 pcm, and to run off of the existing ltx computer. In fact, I mentioned in my post that I had read these.

i am interested in a plug and play solution. Also, Torqhead is a bit of a unique bird, as it uses a proprietary case for the 0411 pcm, which to my understanding contained some repinning in order to make it a plug and play solution.

my question is to those folks, who have done the torqhead upgrade, and have also installed a 4l80e. I know they exist because I have seen their signatures and they list torqhead and 4l80e in their sigs.

@Sinister I don't think he is who you think he is.

@Uninsurable your very first post you state Impala, which in your intro thread you said was a 95. Then you talk about 96s and then switch to talking about the Caprice you're buying. So it's confusing. And @tayto is right - repinning a 13 pin harness is EASY. We're having a hard time understanding how you're OK with a pretty involved mechanical swap and are simultaneously afraid of a very simple re-pin.

I see the confusion. My post actually was describing the three previous B-bodies I owned, and explained that I was purchasing a 96 Caprice. Which, I am proud to report I did. I drove it back home to Florida from Connecticut in a pretty epic road trip. I

i’m not scared to re-pin the connector. I am just a bolt up solution enthusiast. I like to do writeups to show newcomers how to do complicated projects with very little skills.

i did have a bad repin experience on my marauder, Irepinned the maf so I could run a lightning 90mm maf and it had a loose wire into perpetuity.

for me it comes down to a time component. Without getting to personal, I own my own business which results in me working 50-55 hours, I am also a single dad (fortunately with alot of help from my mom) and so I am at a point in time in my life where if I can save myself an hour by paying $100, thats a no brainer to me.

Not many folks with 4L80-E along with Torqhead.
Why not ask those you claim have this combo in their signature?

yes the first post is a hard read. i had to reread it a handful of times to grasp if the post was a statement or question. you're asking for free advice. we are not paid or obligated yet take the time to read and post and then you tell us we haven't properly read or answered your question? the truth is, it has been answered correctly a bunch of times you just don't like the answer. with that being said if you are buying torquehead i would look to them for tech advice especially for the cost of their product. i would say this forum is more orientated to keeping the stock setup (optispark & 4L60E), as they work just fine for 99% of applications. while the 4l80e is a good transmission i don't think it's needed until you get up to the 700hp range, which is not the norm around here.
