I have managed to burn up or melt three fuel tank sending unit wiring connectors in the past year or so all at the fuel pump ground wire and was wondering if anyone has found a beefier bullhead connecotr with some nice 12 gauge or so wiring to feed the pump and ground return I have searched the internet for hours and did not come up with anything I have read the posts bout direct soldering the wires and was thinking about doing this but doubling up the wires or better yet if someone knows off a source for real gasoline resistant 10 or 12 gauge wiring i could just solder the pump and the connector end ... any advice would be much appreciated

You need to get to the root of the problem. You have a ground issue with your wiring somewhere else. Your fuel pump could be pulling too many amps as well. Try adding a few extra grounds between frame and body & battery to frame & engine. IF you don't want to add, clean the ones you have realy good. Melted wires is caused by too many amps going through the wiring.

Your contacts are probably loose or corroded. A loose or corroded set of contacts will cause heat, because of the added resistance. Even a small amount of resistance can cause a lot of heat. The heat then damages/melts the nylon connector housing.

The Racetronix unit sells the upgraded bulkhead wiring and they also have the upgraded body ground kit for $12. Its all listed on the page as an option with their Walbro BLT1 fuel pump kit.
If youre burning sending units, then you are probably fortunate enough to have the upgraded unit that was just released this month. Its supposed to fix all teh concerns of the stock unit. If not, make sure you get the ACD#FLS1072 GM#19179521 unit. I found mine at RockAuto for $267. RMS has it for $268. I am getting ready to get both, as soon as I can get a RockAuto discount code from someone. The ones I have found on here have already been used.

Good Luck!

bulkhead connector

I got the in tank harness from NAPA , 3 for them for $ 10 each so I figure I will wire these n parallel to get enough ground wire to the bulkjead, but I can not seem to find 4 wire bulk head connector, the one that Racetronix sells is a three wire, I also have their upgraded cody ground and ordered larger body to battery ground cables s well Seems the only way to get eht 4 wire harness is to buy a complete sending unit for $ 150 and up and that just seems like too much when all I need is the bukl head wiring I will try Racetronix and see if they can build a 4 wire bulk head connector for me

Thanks to all for all the input and suggestions

Good luck!
Let us know how it goes.

I am getting ready to buy the pump and sending unit. May try to drop the tank this weekend. I hope I only have to do this once! :)

harness

no response from Racetronix on if they can make a 4 pin harness for me, they are usually very very resposive, so I will try to call them tomorrow if I can find a number

Might be a week or more ebfore I actually get this done, that bulkhead connector is just burnt too bad to reuse and no one of the parts stores sells it, not NApA, not Advance, not autozone not oreilly's or the special decloe shop
