I have 2007 Monte Carlo SS and a 1996 Impala SS I would like to have a tuner to read data live on most sensors and also to reset CEL. Also if possible tuner to but need scan tool for diagnostics.

Thanks Randy Sommerfield

I ended up picking it up. Hassle free purchase. For the price you cant beat it. If your looking to just diagnose problems/read reset codes and future issues that will throw a code then pick it up. I like it and have used it on my Blazer, moms eclipse, and my sisters honda. It does a lot for the price.

If your looking to get down and dirty then get one of the higher priced scanner/readers.

There's no way for a scan tool to show AFR. Only fuel trim long and short. Plus O2 sensor voltage. The only way to get AFR is with a wideband O2 sensor/controller and gauge or software.

Looked at the Ultra Gauge, if I had a 1996 I would spend $59 to try it... but sounds to good to be true...

The one I told you about earlier does all cars OBDI and OBDII and was recomended by mechanic that says it does everything the $1200 snap on scan tool does. I've used mine on dozens of cars over 2 years. GREAT!

To be honest I found the snap on to be less reliable and more problematic.

I have known a number of people replace it with something else from other vendors due to the same issues I ran into.

I wish I had a definitive answer for you but I use a simple code scanner and go old school from there.

Autoxray appears to be a good cost effective unit but I have not used one personally

and what were the issues?

Inexpensive scanner and reset tool...

For an inexpensive option, to read tables, trouble codes, and resetting them .. I hooked my droid up to a Bluetooth OBD2 reader off of flea-bay ($15) and downloaded "Torque" off the marketplace for $5 - so for $25 bucks I can scan, reset codes, AND it provides a host of gauges for MPG, transmission, oil, and coolant temperatures .. very cool .. for me .. just a thought for those who don't need to fiddle with the tables themselves!

We had intermittent connectivity issues, failures to synch, units just dying when powered on. We even have seen units that just up and failed with a large repair cost.

Due to this a number of people have gone other routes.

I personally used an older unit and the scroll wheels were so hard to deal with it made the unit virtually impossible to manage.

Please do not take this as a snap on bash or a push to some product this is just my experience and some others that I have dealt with in the past.

My snap-on guys still shows up every week and a portion of my salary goes to him.

I also do not think it is all their devices or electronic gadgets either. I have had a blue point Multi meter that I have had for over 20 plus years and it work flawlessly.

I have also heard nothing but good things about the ultragauge too.

strange, I had coworkers who bought the brick back in the 90s and no problems. mine came from a local shop thru my mac dealer and works fine.
I wouldnt recommend it for newer stuff but for a B body it does just about everything with the right cartridges and they can be found dirt cheap.

I also have the Vantage Pro after first buying the first Vantage, works great as a graphing scope but I would not recommend spending the $$ for the average DIY.

i have a snap on modis, for quite a few years now, no problems. you can even scope the secondary ignition (find a bad plug or wire) has trouble shooter. does all kinds of stuff. the other venders stuff just does one or two things. not enough for me.....but it costs;)

I bought the Autoxray Codescout 2500 and it works like a champ for just codes and erasing! It may be basic, but I can drive and scan for codes and clear...What can I say...I'm a cheap bastid!

I bought the Ultra Gage . It's been trouble free for 2 months now. I run it daily as a 4-output guage on my truck, but it reads codes, clears them, is very compact, and works on all 1996+ vehicles. I have it on a 94 Silvy (running 2001 LS 0411 4.8L), but I've used on a 2011 Yukon XL, so it works well with CAN/LAN vehicles too. I believe it only looks at PCM outputs, so I don't think it can do ABS diagnostics... I also have not tried that either..

For less than $80, it's a nice tool/guage to have. Where else can you plug and play add guages for under $100?
