Jeep shaft Length?

Anyone know the length of the steering shaft or the jeep steering shaft?
I'm looking for the measurement from end to end, fully extended.

I ask because I got one, and I tried to install it, but it seems 4" to short. Am I dumb? Or did I buy the wrong part?

I asked the thread starter in the parts area, but he couldn't tell me the info.

If you get the correct shaft, it will fit like it is made for the car. There are two correct styles. One has flanges at the D-tube end, and the other is smooth. You have to get it from a square body Cherokee, up to about 1996.

You also have to check them for play in the U-joints by twisting the parts back and forth axially while listening for "clicking". If they click they are worn.

If you do not weld the ones with flanges at the D-tube end, it will come apart, and you will have a tremendous amount of play in the steering.

The pic of the welded one is in my 91 OCC.
