Sure. At the price you're gonna pay the yard it matters very little whether it fits. You get to confirm yourself if so, or figure what little mods it may take to work. Worst case even total misfit sell it to plenty of guys on record here who have put up WTB. Grab it!

 

Wagon frames are fully boxed, sedan frames are not. IIRC correctly 9C1 are?? As for dimensions and fitment, not sure and too busy now for a search, but there are differences in gas tanks and exhaust.

But a hitch in that shape is a real find.

 

I have a ‘95 Caprice wagon, and saw a ‘92 Roadmaster sedan at a junkyard the other day with a mint condition DrawTite Class III hitch under it.

… looks like sides attach to the frame rails, then the center section bolts to the two side sections.

Whether it fits your wagon or not - probably not, for reasons related to the fact that wagon fuel tanks differ from sedan fuel tanks - don't pass up the chance to learn from it, and/or sell it to us.

Pretty much true.
The only important difference between sedan and wagon frames, is FORWARD of just behind the back door.
Wagon frames are boxed. Sedan frames should have been boxed, but were left C-channel.
Just behind the rear door is where the differences become far more significant; that is to say, I do not know how anyone could properly mount a sedan body onto a wagon frame or vice versa without important alterations to the frame and/or body becoming necessary.

The major structural difference between civilian sedans and 9C1 sedans is between the frame and the body.
a) 9C1s got ALL the body-to-frame bushings that the civilian sedans should have received.
b) 9C1 bushings were stiffer and more brittle, whereas civilian bushings were softer and squishier.

Boxing a sedan's frame, and installing the missing bushings, are both high bang-for-the-buck handling improvements.

I wish that I could have found a class III before I put the class II on- not that I would ever haul anything too heavy, but just for the heavier duty build.

 

Valid point, however the sections and gauges, together with weldments, mounts, attachments and fasteners on the sedan Class II 'Hidden Hitch' on my FWB are identical to any Class III I have ever seen. Mine pretty much mirrors the construction in the pics above. In the past 18 years I've hauled repeat 1-1/2 ton loads in gravel, dirt, landscape blocks.....

Anything heavier I fear would take way heavier springs and elec brakes to handle safely anyway.

One more thing I've noticed is listings for Class III are often advertised as 3,500# and 350#tongue the same as ClassII. Very confusing. I just found that the case with CURT, and their application for the sedan is a generic universal RV part. Unless your mower is an 8N with BushHog then you probably feel covered with yours lol

 

The wagon frame is wider behind (approximately) the doors. Assuming this is a sedan hitch, its mounting points will be narrower than the corresponding points on a wagon.

It would be worth saving, however, for someone who has a sedan. Alternatively, if you're able to fabricate in steel you could modify it to work on the wagon.

 

It will not bolt up. The wagon frame/hitch is about 2 inches wider.

 

From earlier threads on hitches years back I recalled the "wider" part for our wagon cousins, just not how much. Hard to think a really crafty type hasn't come up with makeup pieces considering the limited options for wagons - and that's even back when these cars were still in production.

OP-If you buy that I'll trade you the class III Wagon hitch I currently have on my 9C1, pay the price you paid the junkyard and pay shipping on both hitches.

I've been trying to find a Class III for a Sedan for YEARS and finally drilled my frame to install a Wagon hitch my buddy was going to junk.

It’s funny how rare these hitches have become. I had my Draw Tite class III on my RMW when i was getting ready to sell it several years ago, and figured I’d just leave the hitch on the RMW and buy a new one for my Caprice instead of swapping it over. Fortunately I went shopping for hitches before selling the RMW and realized that all that was available new anywhere were class II hitches. I swapped over that hitch and am really glad I did.
